Dr. Steve Thomas Kirk, MD

I like him. I saw another doctor in this group a few years ago who was a real jerk and gave me the runaround. Dr. Kirk was clear, came up with a plan that worked. He talks fast but I think it is because he really wanted me to understand my problem better. I still don't fully, but I like that he tried.

I'm a student at UNC, and this doctor is the only doctor who actually listened to me. You can tell he is mentally quick and knows a lot of medicine. I'm going to get him to see my mom when she comes in to visit.

Wow. This one really cares about us patients. The phone system is a little bureaucratic and their online chart system needs work but he really cares. It's obvious in the way he talked to us and his mannerisms.

I saw Doctor Kirk for an odd facial pain. He has been treating it successfully and I see him only once a year. Last year he typed up my medication list for me. When my husband passed away last year, Doctor Kirk was the only doctor of mine to write me a hand written, very sincere letter. I am older and see many doctors, and the one that sees me for the least of my problems sent me the only card. He is a kind white man.

Dr. Kirk be very friendly. Look me in the eye entire clinic. Patient with my very bad English. Treats me for myositis and I walk much better.

Man! I hate their phone system! You wait forever. They have an online portal but even that doesn't work great... BUT if you get through the wait to his nurse Valerie, she will touch base with him and he will come up with a good plan or work you in to discuss it if the concern is a new or long one. Anyway, he'll take as long as he needs to with you and I never feel rushed. He's good.

I see Dr. Kirk in the Durham office, and I think this office is smaller than the Raleigh office and I like it. The front office staff is very nice and they have worked me in before. Dr. Kirk treats me for cluster headaches and is very good at explaining things to me. If you've spent any time with subspecialists, and especially any neurologists, you realize that Dr. Kirk is top notch. I feel lucky to be unerd his care. He listens, and my headaches have never been better controlled.

All my doctors hate to see me coming because I do my research and don't let any B.S. slide. Dr. Kirk let me bring on all my internet knowledge and gave me as hard a time as I gave him. He answered all my questions patiently. He let me challend him and wasn't afraid to challenge me too. Good doc!

I recommend him to my friends. He is a neurologist but knows the ins and outs of sleep too. I saw him for sleep issues. I have severe restless leg syndrome in my legs and arms and chest, runs in the family. Have suffered with it for 20 years. He finally provided me my first good night sleep in the last 5. The office phone system needs some work but once you talk with his nurse, Valerie, it's worth it because she's really nice too.

Haha! I felt like I was a student in medical school with this doctor. He brought in the other room to learn me what was wrong with me on this big head-diagram and then gave me homework to read about before we saw each other again in a few weeks to see if the medication worked. He said he was going to ask me questions next visit to make sure I understood what I had. I've never had a doctor care enough to put me on the spot. Great physician. He didn't let up on me just because I'm an old bluecollar.

Dr. Kirk's office can be hard to work with, but if youre patient with them, then it's well worth it. Dr. Kirk actually cares about individual patients and went to bat for me with my insurance company for some medication I couldn't afford... and it wasn't even one he prescribed but still thought I needed. He heard my concerns long enough to get to the root of the problem and come up with a plan I could actually understand.

I was telling my medicine doctor about this guy, when I came across all these great reviews. Not sure about this last review I just read. I saw Dr. Kirk for the first time on a late Friday ater 5pm when I came over with tears in my eyes from a severe migraine. I work at a nearby store but don't have insurance at all, because my wife lost her job and I was on her insurance. I mean, I had NO MONEY, and my medicine doctor told me to go to the ER. Dr. Kirk let me in and saw me anyway, and spent plenty of time with me late Friday and teught me things about migraines I didn't know, and gave me an imitrexx injection from his samples and some Alieve from his own office. He then gave me more samples to go after my headache went away in his office. He even brought me a Sprite while waiting for my headache to pass. I've never had a doctor treat me like this. I was even feeling guilty about it, but he said not to worry about it. Just a good person.

I've had ongoing nerve problems for years and have met my share of clueless doctors. This one knew what was happening, explained it well and seemed like a real person who actually cares about other real people. Took the time to listen and change my medications in a way that made sense to me for the first time.

I read the other reviews and agree. I found him because of a persistent sleep complaint (he sees all neurrology, seizures, and sleep issues). I wasn't sure about him because, well, he seemed young, but he has great bedside manner, didn't rush me, and explained everything very well. I took notes and he told where to look up some more things in case that raised more questions. And we have a plan. Very good.

I was at work telling my coworkers about my thing, and one of them said I should see Dr. Kirk because he was "the best," and then I was telling someone at church about the same issue and they said they take their mother to see me says it;s the only doctor visit they actually enjoy going to. So I went. They were right. Somehow I learned loads of interesting stuff, got a solid diagnosis, and he didn't keep me waiting forever. I wouldnt mind going again just to hang out with this guy even. His nurse even called to check up on me a week later just for the heck of it.

Dr. Kirk treats my sister who drives all the way up from south of Raleigh, so I thought I should take my sister's advice and see him for my small problem. He was efficient, direct but thorough and patient. I had a list of questions on paper and addressed every single one and even went overtime withh me.

I recommended him to my friend as well. He was patient and spent a lot of time with me. 2 other docs couldn't figure out what I had and he figured it at the first visitt.
